The Town of Elizabeth was initially discovered in 1855 and was a saw mill camp operated by the Web Brothers. In 1858 gold was discovered in the creek, and the gold rush began. The town was originally called Russellville in those days. In these early days the economic activity included logging, farming, cattle ranching and dairy farming.
The Town was incorporated October 10, 1890 with a population of only 300. The population in 2016 was 1,394, and most properties found are on acreage. Median age is 33.4 and is located 41 miles from Denver proper. The elevation of Elizabeth is 6,476 and is in the zip code of 80107.
